Moreover, it sets a positive tone!

Music therapy icebreaker can help group members open up more quickly because a fun dynamic is involved. You can have fun once in a while in groups, especially if you’re discussing topics like depression, trauma, addiction, etc.

Today, I will give you a few quick icebreaker activities related to music that I like to do with groups.

What is a ( Music Therapy) ICEBREAKER?

It’s simple, like breaking the Ice. The goal is to make people feel more comfortable and engaged in conversation when meeting for the first time. Icebreaker questions are common regarding work settings, events, and large social gatherings.

A music therapy icebreaker is an activity that promotes unity, playfulness, and trust between people within a group.

Juggling in groups

We want them to “juggle” four to six beanbags or soft, plush balls. It is essential to toss each ball in the same order every time.

Similarly, as for the first object, you can now add another thing. After the first object reaches the group, introduce the second object.

The final step is to add music and objects. There is a strong influence of music on this activity when you remind them that this is just a fun game, most group members and you will likely smile and laugh.

Rotate with Music Therapy Icebreaker

We all know how this one works. You pass an object around, and when the music stops, you’re out.

Most kids like this game, but teenagers and adults play it too.

The same person may end up with the object more than once since no one ever gets “out.” You can solve this by just passing it to the person next to them, who answers the question in the person’s place. You can choose to play this game with live or pre-recorded music. As soon as paused music begins, the group leader should look away from the group.

Mirroring with Music

It’s common for most people to mirror, but the music adds another dimension. This music therapy icebreaker activity requires group members to split into pairs or groups. Once the music begins, each group should reflect on the other’s movements. You can do this seated or standing, depending on how everyone feels. The groups must stay focused on each other and maintain open lines of communication as they get to know your music activities.

Music therapy with singing bees

To start Music Therapy with Singing Bees, you want to divide teams into groups of three or four. Put 3 or 4 well-known or lesser-known songs in different categories before playing and prepare to sing them. There are many ways to categorize music, from genres to themes to decades to alphabetical titles to singers.

You will also want to create a way to pick a song from a category randomly. In the game, the teams will attempt to fill in the missing lines from each song’s line. After selecting a type, each team chooses a song at random. Let the team sing along with the song title, artist, and year as usual. Stop the music suddenly when they miss the chorus line. A winning team is one that has the most points.
